WAC-Leading Redhawks Set Out for Final Two-Game Regular Season Roadtrip: Seattle University women’s soccer (11-2-2, 8-0-0 WAC), remaining on top of league standings, is riding a nine-game winning streak into this weekend during which they’ve allowed just two goals. The Redhawks recently completed a seven-game shutout streak during which they scored 25 consecutive unanswered goals. SU travels to face New Mexico State (4-10-2, 1-6-1 WAC) on Friday, Oct. 25 and Kansas City (8-7-1, 5-3-0 WAC) on Sunday, Oct. 27. Stephanie Verdoia was named WAC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 14-20), makring the fifth straight week that the Redhawks have earned at least one WAC nod (eight total this season). Verdoia was also named to the CollegeSoccer360 Primetime Performer Honor Roll for her performance last weekend. Redhawks Sit Atop WAC Standings: With two weekends of conference play remaining, Seattle U sits atop league standings with a perfect 8-0-0 WAC record.

Regional Rankings: After moving into the top 10 three weeks ago, the Redhawks have now moved to No. 9 in the Oct. 22 edition of the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women’s West Regional Poll.

Verdoia Named WAC Offensive Player of the Week (Oct. 14-20): Verdoia received her third such honor of the season, fourth of her career, as she scored two goals, including the game-winner in the 3-0 win vs. Utah Valley on Oct. 18. She also assisted the game-winner vs. Bakersfield on Oct. 20. Through two matches, she tallied six shots, four on goal, two goals, one assist, and five points. As of Oct. 21, she had scored a goal or recorded an assist in 11 of SU’s 15 matches this season. Verdoia was also named WAC Player of the Week by College Sports Madness.

Verdoia Named to CollegeSoccer360 Primetime Honor Roll (Oct. 14-20): Verdoia was named to the CollegeSoccer360 Primetime Performers Honor Roll, a list of 11 top DI women’s soccer performers from across the country including student-athletes from Duke, Cal Poly, Florida, Portland State, Virginia, UTSA, Penn State, Iowa State, Mississippi, Nebraska, Pennsylvania, and more.
 
Scouting New Mexico State (4-10-2, 1-6-1 WAC): The Aggies are currently on a six-game winless streak dating back to Sept. 27, as their last win came on Sunday, Sept. 22 vs. Kansas City. Earlier this season, the Redhawks defeated the Aggies, 3-0, on Sept. 29 in Seattle in their third straight shutout en route to a seven-game shutout streak. Jennae Cambra leads the team with four goals and eight points, while Katie Smith has recorded a team-high three assists and Layla Todd has taken a squad-leading 24 shots. In goal, Jessica Schutter has recorded 76 saves and a 1.66 GAA in 16 appearances while Tayler Hammack made one save, allowing three goals, in two appearances. In his third season at NMSU, Blair Quinn is at the helm of the Aggie squad.
 
Scouting Kansas City (8-7-1, 5-3-0 WAC): Currently in third place in the WAC standings, Kansas City has won four of their last five games since falling to the Redhawks in Seattle, 3-0, on Friday, Sept. 27. Taylor Bare has scored a team-high 10 goals, recording 42 shots, while Kaely Tott has assisted a team-leading five goals. In goal, Nina Tzianos has appeared in all 16 games, making 68 saves and recording a 1.26 GAA while Megan Goetzinger has made one appearance and one save. Head coach Chris Cissell, in his third season, led the team to their best ever finish (8-8-4, 6-2-1 Summit League) in his first season (2011) and the program’s third year of existence.

Bakersfield (10/20): The team found themselves down early but came back with two second half goals to top Bakersfield, 2-1, in Western Athletic Conference action. The Redhawks remain undefeated in league play, increasing their win streak to nine games and their home winning streak to seven games. The Redhawks held the early advantage offensively, outshooting the Roadrunners, 8-0, in the first half alone. SU earned four corner kicks in the first half, but they were not able to score as the match remained tied, 0-0, at the half. In the 51st minute, Hedda Regefalk put Bakersfield ahead, 1-0, driving the ball to the left back corner from just in front of the goal. Megan Todd was credited with the assist. Exactly 20 minutes later, in the 71st minute, Jacqui Wallis evened the score on a cross by Mary Hill from the far left side.Heather Thomas scored the game-winner for Seattle U in the 88th minute, her first goal of the season, on assists by Stephanie Verdoia and Kiana Kraft as the Redhawks kept their win streak and undefeated conference streak alive. Natasha Howe and Verdoia led SU with three shots apiece as the Redhawks outshot the Roadrunners, 17-2. In goal, Brianna Smallidge recorded the win in goal while Tori Ornela made five saves in the complete game defeat.

Utah Valley (10/18): The Redhawks, continuing their first place ranking in the Western Athletic Conference, scored early and often as they downed Utah Valley, 3-0. Stephanie Verdoia gained the early lead for the Redhawks, which would prove to be the game-winner, assisted by Mary Hill driving the ball down the left side in the 2nd minute. Kat Prati had later good chances for the Redhawks, including in the 30th minute, but the ball flew to the left side of the goal, and the Redhawks kept a 1-0 advantage at the half. On a similar play as in the first half, Verdoia struck again at the 49 minute mark, driving the ball down and striking it into the left corner of the goal to give SU the 2-0 lead. In the 89th minute, Natasha Howe would add a goal for insurance, assisted by Heather Thomas after a Verdoia shot that was deflected by the Utah Valley goalie to give the Redhawks the 3-0 win. This marked the eighth straight win and seventh straight shutout for Seattle U, increasing their consecutive unanswered goal streak to 25. The Redhawks also increased their home winning streak to six games. Howe, Verdoia, and Prati led the Redhawks with three shots apiece as SU outshot UVU, 12-8. In goal, Brianna Smallidge made three saves in the complete game shutout while Lauren Sack made four saves, allowing all three goals for the Wolverines.

Let There Be Light: Championship Field, the home of Seattle U men’s and women’s soccer, recently received a significant enhancement in the form of lights. The women’s soccer program’s first ever match “under the lights” was held on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. vs. Utah Valley.
