Thanks to a consistent effort by all five golfers, the Seattle University men’s golf team was able to move up two spots in the team standings, finishing in 13th place Tuesday after the third and final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational, hosted by Cal State Northridge at Wood Ranch Golf Club.

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) was the top Seattle U finisher for the first time this season, shooting even-par 72 in the third round for a 54-hole total of two-under-par 214, good enough for a tie for 10th place in the individual standings. David Torres (Armenia, Colombia) shot one-over-par 73 to end the tournament in a tie for 14th place at one-under-par 215.

Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) posted his best single-round score of the tournament, shooting two-over-par 74 for a final total of 226 (+10), finishing in a tie for 60th place. Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) also shot his best round of the week at one-over-par 73 to end the tournament in a tie for 69th place at 229 (+13), as did Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) at three-over-par 75 to finish in a tie for 93rd place at 237 (+21).

As a team, Seattle University combined for a third-round score of four-over-par 292 to complete the tournament with a 54-hole total of 884 (+20), ending up in 13th place. Cal State Fullerton rallied from an 11-stroke deficit with a third-round score of 281 (-7) to win the team title by one shot over San Diego. Daniel Chian of Long Beach State also pulled off a comeback victory, starting the day three strokes back before shooting 66 (-6) to take medalist honors with a cumulative score of 206 (-10).

The Seattle University men’s golf team heads to El Paso, Texas, for the Price’s Give ‘Em Five Invitational, hosted by UTEP at the Butterfield Trail Golf Club this Friday and Saturday, Oct. 25-26. The players will play 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday starting at 8 a.m. Mountain time each day.
