Seattle University women’s rowing head coach Jenny Park has announced the squad’s schedule for their second year as an NCAA Division I varsity program.

“I am so excited for this year,” said Park. “We’ve got a really strong group of returners who are ready to push it to new limits, and a number of incoming athletes with unbelievable potential. With so many returning student-athletes, the leadership, strength, and commitment of the team will only grow. I can’t wait to see how far these young women take Redhawk rowing.”

The team will open up the fall season at Tail of the Lake on Lake Union in Seattle on Sept. 29, sponsored by Lake Union Crew and Holy Names Academy. Unlike many other races, from the vantage point at Gas Works Park, racers will remain in view of spectators from start to finish during the 4K course.

To finish out the fall season, SU crew will make their second straight appearance at the Portland Fall Classic on Oct. 27 on the Willamette River and Head of the Lake on Nov. 3 on the Montlake Cut in Seattle.

To open the spring season, the Redhawks will face the University of Portland in a duel on Mar. 15 at Vancouver Lake, Wash. before participating in the Cascade Sprints on Mar. 29 at American Lake in Lakewood, Wash. Along with the Cascade Sprints, Seattle U will make repeat appearances at the Husky Open on Apr. 5 and at the Covered Bridge Regatta on Apr. 12 in Eugene, Ore.

Seattle U will compete at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) Championships in Sacramento, Calif. on Apr. 26-27 before closing the season at the Windermere Cup on May 3 at nearby University of Washington.

With several opportunities to improve in similar races from last season, the Redhawks also add new opportunities to shine in 2013-14.
