The Seattle University men's golf team started play at the Sacramento State Invitational Monday, improving 13 strokes between the first and second rounds at Valley Hi Country Club in Elk Grove, Calif.

Colter Morton (Pocatello, Idaho) tallied the lowest score for the Redhawks during both rounds, shooting 4-over-par 76 during the first round and even-par 72 during the second. He carded 22 pars on the day, including 12 during the afternoon session, and is currently tied for 31st at 4-over-par 148 in the tournament.

The other four SU players are within four strokes of each other, led by David Torres (Armenia, Colombia). Torres shot 5-over-par 77 during the morning round, but cut two strokes in the afternoon to end the day with 152 strokes (+8) and tied for 53rd. Two strokes behind Torres, Jordan Beals (Enumclaw, Wash.)  is tied for 61st in just his second scoring tournament of the year. Beals joined Morton in shooting 76 in the morning round but added two strokes in the afternoon to end the day at 10-over-par 154.

Both Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) and Will Holdridge (Lynden, Wash.) had similar days Monday, shooting high in the morning while improving significantly in the afternoon. Seibly took 80 strokes (+8) during the first round, then cut five strokes during the second to end the day at 11-over-par 155 and tied for 65th. Holdridge, meanwhile, cut eight strokes between the first and second round by carding a 10-over-par 82 and 2-over 74 on the day. He is tied for 67th with 156 strokes, 12 shots over par.

As a team, Seattle U is in 12th place after counting 605 strokes (+29) on the day. They climbed two spots up the team leaderboard during the second round by just taking 296 strokes, eight shots over par, in the afternoon. UC Santa Barbara leads the team competition with a collective 572, four strokes under par, while the Gaucho's Glen Scher has the individual lead with a seven-under-par 137.

Tee times for the third and final round will begin at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 12. Holdridge will be the first player out for SU when he tees off at 8:40 a.m., again at Valley Hi Country Club.
