After sweeping Northwest University in their first home contests on the newly renovated Logan Field at Seattle University Park, Seattle University softball (7-5) will host Washington (10-5) on Wednesday, Feb. 27 at 6 p.m. The Redhawks then travel to the UC Santa Barbara Invitational to face South Dakota State (6-8) and UCSB (9-5). SU to Host Washington on Feb. 27: In what is believed to be the school’s first on-campus outdoor contest “under the lights”, SU softball will host top-20 crosstown rival Washington for a single game on Wednesday February 27 at 6 p.m. This will be the grand opening for the Redhawks’ new home, Logan Field at Seattle University Park. Fans are encouraged to bring their own chairs, as seating at the park will fill up quickly for the contest. Seattle U faculty athletic representative Sarah Bee will throw the ceremonial first pitch and the softball team will sign autographs following the contest.

Brittney Lott Named College Sports Madness WAC Player of the Week (Feb. 18-24): Brittney Lott was named WAC Softball Player of the Week for her performance in the team’s doubleheader sweep of Northwest University. The Redhawks topped the Eagles 9-1 in the first contest and 15-0 in the second, each in five innings apiece. Lott recorded a team high four runs and six hits on the day.

Scouting Washington: Washington comes into this week with a 10-5 overall record and the Huskies are on a five-game winning streak. Most recently, they went 4-0 at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic, topping Virginia, Florida State, Illinois, and Georgia. Hooch Fagaly leads the team with a .439 average, recording 12 runs on 18 hits in 41 at bats. In the circle, Bryana Walker has a team-leading 1.56 ERA, recording three shutouts, seven complete games, and a 7-2 record.

Last Time Out: The Huskies and Redhawks last faced twice at last season’s Husky Softball Classic on Mar. 10-11 and fell, 0-8 and 0-4, in the two contests. Washington leads the all-time series 8-0.

Scouting South Dakota State:
South Dakota State is currently 6-8 and on a two-game winning streak after topping Valparaiso, 3-2, in eight innings on Feb. 23 and Western Michigan, 1-0, on Feb. 24 at the Holiday Inn Hilltopper Classic at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green. SDSU is led by Devon Reick at the plate with a .447 avg., also recording 11 runs and 21 hits. Jennifer Sutton leads the team in the circle with a 3.14 ERA.

Last Time Out: This will be the first time the two teams have faced.

Scouting UCSB:
With a 9-5 overall record, UC Santa Barbara has lost three of their last four games with losses vs. Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Nevada, and a win against BYU. The Gauchos (9-5) are led at the plate by Keilani Jennings with a .405 average, also recording 10 runs and 17 hits as well as four doubles, four home runs, and 15 RBIs. In the circle, Shelby Wisdom has recorded a 7-4 record and a 2.85 ERA thus far this season.

Last Time Out:
The Redhawks and Gauchos last faced on Feb. 13, 2011 at the UCSB Gaucho Classic I in Santa Barbara. SU lost 0-10 in five innings thanks in part to a seven-run second inning by UCSB.

Northwest University Doubleheader:
In their first regular season contests on the newly renovated Logan Field at SU Park, Seattle U swept Northwest University, 9-1 in the first contest and 15-0 in the second, both in five innings. In game one, Lisa Maulden hit the first regular season home run at home, a 3RBI homer to right field. Maulden led the team with 5 RBIs in the game and Brittney Lott led SU with 3 hits. In game two, Bubba Morrow hit the first regular season grand slam at home in the team’s 11-run third inning. Of note, Isabella Geronimo also hit a 2RBI single during the inning. On the day, Lott recorded a team high four runs and six hits and Maulden led the team with 5 RBIs.
