The Seattle University men's golf team saw a rough first day in the WSU Snowman Getaway Monday, playing two rounds of the three-round tournament at Palm Valley Country Club in Goodyear, Ariz.
After a morning first round where no player shot better than 79 (+7), the Redhawks rebounded in the second round as four players shot below 79 Monday afternoon. Will Holdridge (Lynden, Wash.) once again leads the Redhawks after day one of the tournament. He shot rounds of 8-over-par 80 and 4-over-par 76 Monday to sit at 12-over-par 156, tied for 67th place.
Holdridge is currently one stroke better than two of his teammates, Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) and David Torres (Armenia, Colombia). Seibly is at 13-over-par 157 for the tournament after rounds of 82 (+10) and 75 (+3), respectively while Torres shot rounds of 79 (+7) and 78 (+6) on the day. Both enter Tuesday's third and final round in a tie for 74th.
Two more Redhawks are tied, two strokes behind Seibly and Torres. Colter Morton (Pocatello, Idaho) shot 3-over-par 75 in the afternoon's second round, but a tough morning of 12-over-par 84 put him at 15-over-par for the tournament. Playing in just his second tournament of the year, Alec Pakzad (Bellevue, Wash.) also shot 15-over-par over two rounds, taking 79 strokes (+7) during the morning round and 80 strokes (+8) in the afternoon. Morton and Pakzad are currently tied for 79th.
As a team, the Redhawks took 624 strokes (+48) on the day are are in 14th in the tournament. 26th-ranked Missouri leads the tournament at 565 (-11), while host Washington State's Michael Anderson leads the individual tournament at 8-over-par 136.
The Redhawks will play the WSU Snowman Getaway's final round Tuesday, February 26. Play will begin at 7:00 a.m. Pacific.
