Softball Drops Two on Day Two of Easton Desert Classic

The Redhawks fell to No. 19 UCLA, 9-0, and Louisiana Monroe, 1-0.

Unable to score in either game, the Redhawks fell to UCLA, their first top-20 team faced this season, 9-0, in the first game, and Louisiana Monroe, 1-0, in the second game on the day.

"Our bats were quiet today," said head coach Dan Powers. "Richelle [Ashburn] pitched well against Louisiana Monroe but we stranded too many runners. We'll regroup and get after it tomorrow versus Oregon State."

Game 1: No. 19 UCLA 9, Seattle U 0 (5 innings)

UCLA scored two runs on a 2RBI home run by B.B. Bates in the first inning and scored five more in the third inning behind two more home runs by Gracie Goulder and Jessica Hall.

Seattle U was unable to score and reached base only twice as Rogin Hardy (Kirkland, Wash.) walked in the first inning and Allegra Wilde (Kennewick, Wash.) reached on a fielding error in the third.

The Bruins tacked on two more runs in the fourth on Bates' second 2RBI home run of the contest and came away with the shutout win in five innings. Bates led UCLA with four RBIs and three hits in the contest.

In the circle, Mandie Sugita (Rossmoor, Calif.) received the loss for SU, allowing two runs while walking one in one inning pitched. Jessica Ulrich (Lewiston, Idaho) entered in relief, allowing seven runs on eight hits in three innings of action. For the Bruins, Paige McDuffee earned the complete game shutout, walking just one and striking out six in five innings pitched.

Game 2: Louisiana Monroe 1, Seattle U 0

A relatively quiet game at the plate for either team, the Redhawks outhit Louisiana Monroe, 8-5, but still received their second shutout loss of the day.

Both teams scoreless through the first four innings, the Warhawks were able to drive in the winning run on a single up the middle by Faith Bohack in the fifth inning.

Seattle U left two runners on base in four innings and left at least one runner on base in six of seven innings.

Brittney Lott (Tacoma, Wash.) led SU with two hits and, for Louisiana Monroe, Summer Melancon also recorded a team-high two hits.

In the circle, Richelle Ashburn (Post Falls, Idaho) allowed one run while walking two and striking out three in seven innings pitched. For the Warhawks, Stephanie Routzon allowed eight hits while walking one and striking out five in the complete game shutout.
