Kelly Biette (Brighton, Colo.), a senior on the Seattle University volleyball team, has earned Capital One Academic All-District VIII First Team honors, as voted on by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Entering the final home matches of her collegiate career, Biette has compiled 129 kills, 15 service aces, 60 digs, and 144 total blocks in 204 sets played. She is tied for 10th on Seattle U's all-time list for blocks per set, averaging 0.71 rejections per set. In her freshman season, she led the team with 81 total blocks.
Biette is majoring in biology and currently carries a 3.92 grade point average, the second-highest GPA among the seven honorees on the All-District First Team. She is the president of the Seattle U Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) and a member of the Western Athletic Conference SAAC. Earlier in the fall, she traveled to Switzerland to appear in front of an international conference of scientists to make a presentation entitled, "Effect of Hsp90 Chaperone Machinery Co-Expression on Client Protein Expression and Function."
"Kelly's selection to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team is a great honor for her, the volleyball program, and the athletic department. Kelly's hard work, both academically and athletically, has earned her a great deal of respect among her peers and faculty. As we move forward with the program, it will be our continuing goal to support the University's mission and academic success of our student-athletes," Seattle U acting head volleyball coach Teron Uy said.
Biette is now eligible to receive Capital One Academic All-America honors, which will be announced Thursday, Dec. 13, by CoSIDA. She is joined on the District VIII First Team by Carrie Baird of San Diego, Alaina Bergsma of Oregon, Marissa Brand of Fresno State, Katherine Fischer of Oregon, Natalie Hagglund of USC, and Andrea Hannasch of San Diego State.
The Seattle University volleyball team hosts UT Arlington Thursday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m., followed by its final home match of the season against Louisiana Tech Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7 p.m. at the Connolly Center. Biette will be one of three seniors honored in Senior Night ceremonies on Nov. 10.
