Seattle University women’s soccer (8-8-2, 3-3-2) hosted the University of Denver (14-1-4, 6-0-2) in their final regular season match, and fell to the Pioneers, 2-0. Seven Redhawks – Chelsea Jennings (Tacoma, Wash.), Renee Vandermause (Madison, Wisc.), Carlee Norquist (Boise, Idaho), Heather Thomas (Woodinville, Wash.), Taylor Bolibol (Woodinville, Wash.), Melissa Busque (St. Bruno, Quebec, Canada) and Liana Heberer (Oceanside, Calif.) – played the final home game of their collegiate career.

“I think the result is a little disappointing for us, especially because you want your seniors to go out on a good note,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “I think the positive thing for us was that this was a game that helped prepare us for the conference tournament, which we’re really excited about and are looking forward to. I think we have to learn from this, we have to figure out the things we can do better, and hope to give a good showing next week.”

Each of Denver’s two goals came in the 11th minute of the respective half. In the 11th minute, Kaitlin Bast scored the game-winning goal on an assist by Cassidy Larson. In the 56th minute, Kristen Hamilton added an insurance goal, her team-leading 13th goal of the season, on an assist by Kalie Vaughn.

Overall, the Pioneers outshot the Redhawks, 14-9. Hamilton led Denver with five shots, two on goal, and Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) led Seattle U with four shots, one on goal.

In goal, Brittany Lott (Fort Collins, Colo.) got her second career start, recording two saves. Aris Coover (Bellevue, Wash.) made her second appearance of the season in goal, playing the entire second half. For Denver, Lara Campbell played all 90 minutes, making two saves in the complete game shutout.
