For the second straight year, Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) has been named a Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA), and this time he is joined by teammates Quin Koplitz (Enumclaw, Wash.) and Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) as honorees for the 2011-12 academic year.
In addition, by combining for a 3.377 grade point average during the 2011-12 academic year, the Seattle U men's golf team has received the GCAA All-Academic Team Award presented by Farmers Insurance, one of 82 Division I squads to earn the academic recognition.
Dahl recently graduated with both magna cum laude and departmental honors in history, receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree during June's commencement ceremony. Dahl was named an All-America Scholar by combining a 3.754 cumulative grade point average with a 75.7 scoring average during the 2011-12 season.
After transferring from Tacoma Community College, Koplitz made an immediate impact on the Seattle U men's golf team, finishing the year with a 74.7 scoring average as well as two match play victories to help the Redhawks win the Cal Poly Lamkin Grip Cup. Majoring in business management, Koplitz notched a 3.9 grade point average to complete his qualification for the All-America Scholar Award.
Seibly led the Redhawks with a 74.1 scoring average, collecting three top ten finishes that included a tie for 10th place at the America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championships to earn Second Team All-America Sky recognition. In the classroom, Seibly has accumulated a 3.648 grade point average as a marketing major within the Albers School of Business and Economics.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70 percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 76.0 in Division I, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
The Seattle University men's golf team has moved into the Western Athletic Conference beginning in the 2012-13 academic year. The 2013 WAC Men's Golf Championships will take place at Rio Secco Golf Club in Henderson, Nev., April 29-May 1.
