The Seattle University baseball team failed to sustain an offensive threat, especially after the third inning, and Washington did all the damage it needed to in the first third of the game as the Huskies collected a 6-0 victory over the Redhawks Tuesday evening at Husky Ballpark.

Seattle U could not take advantage of two early opportunities. In both the first and third innings, Trent Oleszczuk (Beaverton, Ore.) and Steve Kirbach (Kirkland, Wash.) picked up back-to-back singles, with Husky rightfielder Michael Camporeale misplaying both Kirbach hits to allow Oleszczuk to advance to third base. However, the following Redhawk hitters could not drive the runners in during either inning.

Washington (19-15) jumped on top in the bottom of the first inning as Joe Meggs drew a one-out walk, advanced to third base on a double by Jacob Lamb, and scored on an RBI groundout to second base hit by Camporeale.

In the bottom of the third inning, Caleb Brown led off with a double, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt by Meggs, and scored on a single by Lamb. After Lamb was thrown out attempting to steal second base, Camporeale walked, Chase Anselment singled, and Trevor Mitsui doubled to drive in Camporeale.

Seattle U starter Brandon Kizer (Marysville, Wash.) threw a wild pitch that scored Anselment, and then he walked Andrew Ely, followed by another wild pitch that scored Mitsui. A single by B.K. Santy scored Ely and drove Kizer from the game after 2 2/3 innings of work.

Five Washington pitchers combined to shut out the Redhawks, allowing only six hits and one walk during the game. Austin Voth was credited with the victory after giving up four hits in a pre-determined four-inning start, striking out three Seattle U batters. Evan Ewing (Spokane, Wash.) notched his second straight solid relief outing, giving up only two hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings of work.

Seattle University (16-16) is scheduled to host the University of British Columbia Wednesday, April 18, at Bannerwood Stadium in Bellevue starting at 4 p.m. Dan Giuliani will broadcast the game live on GoSeattleU.com.
