On day three of the SpringHill Suites Invitational #2, Seattle University softball's final day of competition in the tournament, they dropped game one to New Mexico (20-6) and game two to Texas San-Antonio (11-16).
Game 1 - New Mexico 8, Seattle U 5
Despite scoring all five of their runs within the last three innings, the lead was too much to overcome and the Redhawks fell to the Lobos, 8-5.
New Mexico came out offensively strong from the start of the game, adding three runs to the board on a double in both the first and second innings. Each team left one on base, both on walks, in the third, before the Lobos added two more runs to the board in the fourth on a Stefanie Carramusa double and a Cox single to take the 6-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, a Sarah Petosa (Auburn, Wash.) single scored Mandie Sugita (Rossmoor, Calif.) for the Redhawks' first run. In the bottom of the inning, the Lobos added two more runs on a Jordan Sjostrand home run to make the score 8-1.
The Redhawks appeared to be making a comeback in the top of the sixth, adding four runs to the board on a 3RBI double by Sugita and an RBI single by Petosa, but they left three on base to end the inning.
A scoreless bottom of the inning for the Lobos and top of the seventh for the Redhawks ended the game and New Mexico took the 8-5 win.
Jessica Ulrich (Lewiston, Idaho) got the start for Seattle U and allowed six runs on nine hits in 3 1/3 innings pitched. Sugita came in in relief and allowed two runs on one hit in 2 2/3 innings pitched.

Game 2 - UTSA 8, Seattle U 3
Texas San-Antonio added a run to the board in the second, two more in the fourth, and three more in the fifth, to jump out to the 6-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.
Seattle U added three runs of their own to the board in the bottom of the fifth, as Brianna Guerrero (Buena Park, Calif.) scored on an Allegra Wilde (Kennewick, Wash.) double down the right field line, and Wilde and Karina Smyth (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) scored on a Petosa single to right field.
With a 6-3 score in favor of UTSA going into the final inning, the Roadrunners added two more runs to the board to make the final score, 8-3.
Richelle Ashburn (Post Falls, Idaho) got the start for the Redhawks, giving up six runs on seven hits, while walking two and striking out three in five innings pitched. Sugita entered in relief and allowed two runs on three hits in two innings pitched.
Haylee Staton started in the circle for the Roadrunners, walking and striking out two in two innings pitched. Alyssa Vordenbaum allowed three runs on three hits in 2 1/3 innings pitched, and Morgan Luksa allowed only one hit and struck out five in 2 2/3 innings pitched, notching the win.
"We ran out of gas today," said head coach Dan Powers. "Our pitchers made too many mistakes against good hitters."
Seattle U (7-16) returns to Idaho on Saturday, Mar. 31 and Sunday, Apr. 1 to face Idaho State for two doubleheaders, starting at 11 a.m. both days.
