The Seattle University men's golf team advanced to the final round of the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Challenge Thursday after winning two matches at Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande, Calif.

The Redhawks faced South Dakota State in the opening round and won handily, sweeping all five individual matches. Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) led the way for SU in the morning, winning his match against South Dakota State's Hudson Carpenter 6&5.

Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) also played fewer than 18 holes against SDSU, needing just 16 to defeat Greg Fehrman 4&2.

After the morning session, Seattle University took on the tournament host Cal Poly. After a close match, Seattle U found themselves moving on after a 3-2 win over the Mustangs. Seibly once again played in the first position and defeated Cal Poly's Scott Patterson 1 up after 18 holes.

Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) played at number two, earning his second win of the day with a 2&1 victory over the Mustangs' Justin Haley. Claiming the crucial third and deciding point was Matchett, who won 2&1 against Trevor Guthrie.

The Redhawks face Fresno State in the final Friday, March 23 at 7:30 a.m., again at Cypress Ridge. The Bulldogs defeated Utah State 5-0 and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 3.5-1.5 to advance to the final pairing.
