In the final indoor competition of his collegiate career, Erik Barkhaus (Whitefish Bay, Wis.) lowered his own school record in the men's 3000 meter run, highlighting Seattle University's participation in the UW Last Chance Meet Saturday at Dempsey Indoor.
Barkhaus finished 10th in his section and overall with a time of 8:21.63, over seven seconds faster than the mark he posted at this meet last year. He also owns the school record in the 5000 meter run, set at the Husky Classic last month.
Elsewhere in the meet, Samuel Engle (Portland, Ore.) earned personal bests in two events, posting times of 51.37 seconds in the 400 meter dash and 9.23 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles. Cooper Hartman (Silverdale, Wash.) finished in sixth place in the long jump with a personal-best effort of 5.91 meters (19' 4.75"), while Ryan Agnew posted a top leap of 5.87 meters (19' 3.25") to finish in seventh place in the event.
Kaytie Bateman (Chehalis, Wash.) finished in third place in the women's shot put with a top throw of 9.23 meters (30' 3.5"). Collin Overbay (Spokane, Wash.) finished seventh in his section of the men's one mile run with a time of 4:21.00, while Dan Auld (Eugene, Ore.) was tripped up during his heat of the 800 meter run, crossing the finish line with a time of 2:00.12.
The Seattle University track and field team will begin the outdoor season at the Oregon Preview in Eugene, Ore., Sunday, March 18, beginning at 1 p.m.
