Coming off a weekend where she won four of five matches played, senior Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) has been named GoSeattleU.com's Featured Student-Athlete of the Week.
Schwab won two singles and two doubles matches last weekend. She claimed her first two wins Feb. 3 against Weber State, where she beat Ashley Tanner 6-2, 6-1 in singles play and, together with teammate Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.), dispatched Michelle Warwick and Nittaya Phonharath 8-4. Two days later Schwab took down Idaho State's Katharina Marsela 6-2, 6-3 at number one singles and joined with Nicole Nakaoka (Honolulu, Hawaii) to beat the Bengals' pair of Katharina Marsela and Laura Porras 8-4.
Schwab also was awarded victory at number one singles Feb. 4 against Boise State. Her opponent, Sonia Klamczynska was unable to play due to injury and forfeited the contest.
"Katrina has been an outstanding force on our team," said SU tennis head coach Mark Frisby. "Her work ethic, dedication, and leadership is superior than any athlete I've ever worked with. I've been fortunate to coach her."
Schwab is dedicated to her work in the classroom as well, earning a 3.533 grade point average as a civil engineering major. The senior has been a mainstay in the singles lineup throughout her career, playing at either one or two singles every match so far this season.
The Seattle University women's tennis team next takes the court Friday, Feb. 10 against Portland State in Vancouver, Wash., at 4:00 p.m.
The Seattle University athletic department will name a Featured Student-Athlete of the Week each Tuesday based on a person's performance both in the classroom and in competition.
