The Seattle University men's golf team heads to St. George, Utah, for the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational, hosted by Southern Utah University next Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 13-14, at the Sunbrook Golf Club.
Head coach Don Rasmussen is in the process of completing the qualification process for this tournament, but he has already chosen two of the competitors. Senior Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) has already qualified to be part of the Redhawk squad for this event. He has posted a scoring average of 74.4 in 12 competitive rounds so far this year.
Junior Preston Matchett (Billings, Mont.) will see his first action of the 2011-12 campaign after back surgery kept him out of competition since the fall portion of the 2010-11 season. He was named America Sky Golfer of the Week Oct. 28, 2010, after an eighth place finish at the 2010 Kauai Collegiate Invitational.
The Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational is a 36-hole event, with 18 holes played each day. Dixie State is back to defend its team title, plus Seattle U will be also competing against host school Southern Utah, Boise State, Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, College of Charleston, Oral Roberts, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State, and Western Illinois.
This is the first of five spring tournaments for the Redhawks, culminating in the America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championships April 29 through May 1 at Lake of Isles in Ledyard, Conn.
