The Seattle University men's tennis team dropped their second straight match Saturday at the Seattle Tennis Club, as the Redhawks fell to the Idaho Vandals 6-1.

Seattle University avoided a shutout due to Mark Shkrebtan's (Redmond, Wash.) win in the first singles position. Shkrebtan took the first set against Idaho's Marius Cirstea, 6-4, but dropped the second, 6-3. He fought back in the third set, however, with a 6-3 win to earn the match victory.

The most exciting match of the day came from the number five singles position, where Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) narrowly lost to Idaho's Jose Bendeck in three sets. Lynch lost a heartbreaking first set in a tiebreak, falling 7-6 (7-4), but fought back in the second set with a 6-4 victory. He could not finish the comeback, however, and fell in the super tiebreak, 10-4.

For the doubles point, the Redhawks were competitive in all three matches, but did not find victory. In the number one slot, Shkrebtan and partner Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) forced Idaho duo Cirstea and Andrew Dobbs into an extra game before falling, 9-7. The other two doubles pairs, Tom Plunkett (Seattle, Wash.) and Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) at number two and Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) and Lynch at number three, both held leads in their respective matches, but couldn't hang on for a win.

The Seattle University men's tennis team is back in action Friday, Feb. 3 when they head to Lewiston, Idaho for two matches. The Redhawks begin the day at 11:00 a.m. when they take on Lewis-Clark State and finish the doubleheader by taking on College of Idaho at 3:00 p.m.
