For the second straight day, the Seattle University men's swim team won seven events on its way to a 109.5-90.5 victory over Simon Fraser Saturday afternoon at the Connolly Center Pool.

The afternoon started with Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.), Chris Lynch (Melbourne, Australia), Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.), and Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) combining to set a new pool record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:23.97. Longbotham also won two individual events: the 200 freestyle in 1:41.96 and the 100 freestyle in 46.56 seconds.

Anderson was also victorious in two individual events, winning the 50 freestyle in 20.55 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 50.28 seconds. James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) won the 400 individual medley in a pool-record time of 4:04.19, and he led off the 400 freestyle relay quartet of Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.), Nicolas Morrell (Bend, Ore.), and Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.) to a victory in that event with a time of 3:09.13.

Morrell nearly won the 1000 freestyle, losing to Simon Fraser's Kevin Nickerson by just 9/100ths of a second after posting a time of 9:53.53. He also finished third in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:46.67, behind Simon Fraser's Bruno Sharpe and Douglas Pizac (Salt Lake City, Utah), who touched the wall with a time of 4:44.06.

Wertz finished second in both the 400 individual medley (4:09.23) and the 100 breaststroke (59.00 seconds). Carriker also posted two second-place finishes, earning runner-up standing in both the 50 freestyle (21.66 seconds) and the 100 freestyle (48.24 seconds).

"Overall I am pretty happy with today, as we still had some great swims. We are going to be in great shape for the conference meet in less than a month," Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said.

Before the meet, seniors Anderson, Andrews, Nick Hryciuk (Snohomish, Wash.), Garrett Nugent (Valencia, Calif.), Eric Pedack (Snohomish, Wash.), and James White (El Cajon, Calif.) were honored for their contributions to the Redhawk swim program.

Seattle University will begin preparing for the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship, to take place Wednesday to Saturday, Feb. 15-18, at East Los Angeles College in Monterey Park, Calif.
