After almost two months away from competition for the vast majority of the team, the Seattle University swim program will host its final two home meets of the 2011-12 season this Friday, Jan. 20, at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 21, at 12 noon at the Connolly Center Pool.
Simon Fraser University will participate in both meets over the weekend. The Clan and the Redhawks have been rivals ever since Seattle U established its swim program in the mid-1990's. These two teams have competed numerous times, including at the national championships when both schools were part of the NAIA. Saturday's meet will also include the Washington State women.
Before Saturday's meet begins, the Seattle U swim coaches and athletes will honor 11 seniors who will be competing at home for the final time in their careers. Together, the senior class has set numerous school records and given top-notch performances, especially at the conference championships over the years.
The 11 seniors being honored Saturday are: Jordan Anderson, Keith Andrews, Hanna Basler, Casey Hoffman, Nick Hryciuk, Alexis Morehouse, Tina Nguyen, Garrett Nugent, Eric Pedack, Connie Rae Shobaken, and James White.
Admission is free for all Seattle U home swim meets, but seating is limited, so come early to make sure you have a spot to sit down. Also, Saturday's Senior Day ceremony will start before 12 noon, so make sure you get to the Connolly Center in time to check it out.
