For just the second time since the reestablishment of the tennis program, Seattle University's men's tennis team took on the No. 26 Washington Huskies in a crosstown matchup Friday, Jan. 13, at the Nordstrom Tennis Center. The Huskies downed the Redhawks 7-0 in the first dual match of the 2012 season for both teams.
The Redhawks' best chance for a point came in the number six singles contest where Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) battled Washington's Skyler Tateishi until the end before ultimately losing in two sets (6-4, 7-5). The next-closest singles match came from the number four position where SU's Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.) dropped straight sets (6-3, 6-1) to UW's Nicholas Kamisar.
During the doubles matchups, Seattle U's team of Tom Plunkett (Seattle, Wash.) and Flavio Malagutti (Rio Claro, Brazil) hung tough with the Huskies' duo of Matt Stith and Viktor Farkas before falling 8-4 in the third doubles position.
The Seattle University men's tennis team will return to action next Friday, Jan. 20, as they travel to Eugene, Ore., and take on the Oregon Ducks. The Redhawks' first home match of the season is slated for Saturday, Jan. 21, when they take on Idaho at the Sammamish Club in Issaquah, Wash., starting at 5:30 p.m.
