For the second straight year, sophomore Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) won a fall tournament bracket, winning two matches Sunday to stand alone at the end of the Yellow Flight consolation draw as play concluded at the PNW Intercollegiate Tournament, hosted by the University of Oregon.

Bediones started the day with a tough match against Filip Fichtel of Idaho, winning the first set (6-3) before losing the second set (6-2) to force a super-tiebreaker, which went 20 points before Bediones finally prevailed, 11-9. He had an easier time in the bracket final against Idaho's Clint Vidano, winning that match in straight sets (6-4, 6-0) to earn the bracket title.

Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.) also entered the day with a chance to win a consolation bracket in the Green Flight, but he fell to Jose Bendeck of Idaho in the semifinal round. Bendeck won the first set (6-2), but Shkrebtan came back with a second-set victory (6-3) to force a super-tiebreaker, in which Bendeck squeaked by, 10-8, to advance to the bracket final, where he lost to Nevada's Moez Echargui in straight sets.

The Seattle University men's tennis team will now prepare for the spring dual-match season, which will begin with a contest against the University of Washington Friday, Jan. 13, at 4 p.m. This will be the final year in which the men's tennis program will play as an independent before moving into the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) July 1, 2012.
