The Seattle University men's golf team concluded the Kauai Collegiate Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii, in fifth place Tuesday at the Puakea Golf Course.
The Redhawks combined for a third round total of 297 (+9) and a three-round score of 892 (+28), 11 shots clear of sixth-place North Dakota State but 13 strokes behind fourth-place Utah Valley. With a remarkable 18-under-par 270, San Diego came from behind to squeak past host school Hawaii by one stroke for the team title, while Hawaii's Thomas Kua shot his third straight sub-70 round to cruise to medalist honors by seven strokes at 202 (-14).
Despite a final-round 77 (+5), Quin Koplitz (Enumclaw, Wash.) remained Seattle U's top finisher, ending up in a tie for 17th place with a 54-hole score of 221 (+5). Alec Pakzad (Bellevue, Wash.) shot 75 (+3) in the final round to end the tournament in a tie for 20th place at 223 (+7), while Will Holdridge (Lynden, Wash.) shot 74 (+2) Tuesday for a cumulative score of 225 (+9), good enough for a tie for 23rd place.
Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) shot his best round of the tournament, posting a third-round score of 74 to end up in a tie for 25th place at 226 (+10). Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) also shot 74, his lowest score in the three-day tournament, and finished in 33rd place with a final score of 230 (+14). Playing as an individual, Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) shot 79 (+7) on the final circuit for a final score of 227 (+11) to end up in a tie for 27th place.
The Seattle University men's golf team has concluded the fall portion of the 2011-12 schedule and will not compete again until the Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational in St. George, Utah, Feb. 13-14, 2012. The spring season will conclude with the America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championships, to take place at Lake of Isles in Ledyard, Conn., April 29 through May 1, 2012.
