In a quadrangular meet hosted by the University of Denver Saturday at the El Pomar Natatorium, the Seattle University men's swim team defeated Colorado School of Mines, 155-73, but lost to the host Pioneers, 176-52, as well as to the University of Utah, 151-83.
The Redhawks started off the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay, as Keith Andrews (Hillsboro, Ore.), Chris Lynch (Melbourne, Australia), Murray Longbotham (Mercer Island, Wash.), and Jordan Anderson (Newberg, Ore.) combined for a time of 1:33.98. Seattle U placed two swimmers in the top five in the 200 freestyle, as Longbotham finished second with a time of 1:42.75, and Nicolas Morrell (Bend, Ore.) finished fourth in 1:43.98, only 1/100th of a second behind the third place finisher.
Anderson posted his best time of the season in the 50 freestyle, finishing second in 20.50 seconds, and then he nearly won the 100 freestyle, finishing second in that event by just 26/100ths of a second with a time of 45.76 seconds.
Joe Wertz (Richland, Wash.) finished third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:55.50, while Longbotham earned a fifth place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:47.02. In the 200 breaststroke, James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) touched the wall in fourth place with a time of 2:10.73, followed by Lynch in fifth place in 2:11.29.
In the meet-ending 400 freestyle relay, the quartet of Andrews, Tyler Carriker (Everett, Wash.), Tomas Mendez-Beck (Hillsboro, Ore.), and Morrell finished in fifth place with a time of 3:13.56.
The Seattle University men's swim team will compete in an intrasquad competition next Saturday, Nov. 19, beginning at 10 a.m. at the Connolly Center Pool.
