Weekly Release: UC Davis and Cal Poly

This Week for the Redhawks: The Seattle University men's soccer team (0-1) travels to the Golden State for their second weekend of action. This time, SU will take a Northern California tour beginning at UC Davis (0-1) on Friday, Sept. 2. Kickoff is slated for 5 p.m. Two days later, the Redhawks will travel to San Luis Obispo to face the Cal Poly Mustangs (1-0) in a 1 p.m. match.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks dropped a 3-1 decision to the then-No. 9 UCSB Gauchos to open the year on Aug. 27. After Santa Barbara took a 2-0 lead in the second half, senior defender Kevin Cook brought SU within range to even the score with the Redhawks first goal of the year. The Gaucho offense added a final tally in the 85th minute to seal their victory, while Seattle U was down to only nine players on the field.

On Deck: SU will host their season home opener on Sunday, Sept. 11, versus the cross-town Washington Huskies at 1 p.m. They will close out their home stand with Gonzaga on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m.

Goin' Back to Cali: Seattle U returns for their second consecutive trip to California this weekend. They will travel to the Golden State for five more games between Sept. 23 - Oct. 9.

Cook Scores First: Senior defender Kevin Cook was the first Redhawk to score this season. He brought his career goal total to two with the season-opening goal.

Got Heim: Freshman Travis Heim made the most of his collegiate debut at then-No. 9 UCSB. The forward came in off the bench and found Kevin Cook in the 71st minute for his first career assist.

Newcomers Make Debuts: Six newcomers made their Redhawk debut at UCSB on Aug. 27. Breaking into the starting lineup were: Josh Alvarez, Scott Greenburg, Jens Klitgaard, Mikey Ramos and Devin Thomas. Also making his debut off the bench was forward Travis Heim.

The Captains: The men's soccer captains for the 2011 season are: Marshall Kosaka, Elliot Richards and Demaci Roussos.

Scouting UC Davis: UC Davis (0-1) opened the year with a 1-0 loss at Saint Mary's. SMC outshot the Aggies 14-9, while Davis had five corner kick opportunities to the Gaels three.

Defensively, Omar Zeenni has tallied a 1.00 goals against average and three saves in 90 minutes of work.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced UC Davis: The Redhawks shutout UC Davis, 1-0, on Sept. 19, on their way to capturing the Oregon State Hensor/Zaher Nike Tournament crown. Freshman Brady Ballew scored the game-winner in the 22nd minute off a Marshall Kosaka assist.

Scouting Cal Poly: Behind an Ian Clark goal, Cal Poly (1-0) kicked off the year with a 1-0 victory over MPSF rival UNLV. CP outshot the Rebels 16-3, with six shots landing on frame.

Goalkeeper Patrick McLain had one save in 90 minutes of work.

The Last Time Seattle U Faced Cal Poly: This will be SU's first meeting with the Mustangs since reclassifying back to full NCAA Division I status.
