The Seattle University men's golf team got off to a solid start in its first year participating in the America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championships, currently tied for sixth place in the 12-team tournament after one round at the Troon North Golf Club.
Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) earned 13 pars on his way to a first-round 75 (+4), tied for 12th at the end of the day. Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) shot 76 (+5) in the opening round to find himself in a tie for 16th place after 18 holes of action.
Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) and Chris Holway (Longview, Wash.) each posted first-round scores of 78 (+7) to finish the opening day in a tie for 26th place. Jordan Beals (Enumclaw, Wash.) ended the opening round in a tie for 55th place with a first-round total of 88 (+17).
As a team, Seattle University is tied with Binghamton in sixth place with a cumulative score of 307 (+23), part of a tightly-bunched top nine teams separated by only 13 strokes. Sacramento State holds the early lead after an opening-round 296 (+12), four strokes ahead of Weber State. Only three players posted first-round scores under par, led by Sacramento State's Jordan Weir's 68 (-3), one stroke ahead of Steve Bidne of Northern Colorado and two ahead of Hartford's D.J. Lantz.
The America Sky Men's Golf Conference Championships will continue with the second round Tuesday, May 3, followed by the third and final round Wednesday, May 4.
