Junior Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and freshman Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) easily won their doubles match in the number one position, 8-1. However, NJIT was able to pull out the doubles sets in positions two and three to clinch the doubles point and earn the first tally of the match.
NJIT (15-8) earned straight-set victories in the number one, three, and six singles spots, losing only six games combined in those three matches, to wrap up the match victory and advance to the conference championship. Both Schwab and Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) had won the first set in their respective matches, but once NJIT clinched the overall victory, everything in progress was stopped to keep the tournament moving.
Seattle University (9-15) will look to earn third place in the conference tournament, facing the loser of Saturday's second semifinal between second seed Texas-Pan American and third seed North Dakota. The Redhawks are scheduled to play in the third-place match Sunday, May 1, beginning at 12 noon local time.
