Women Set Four School Records on the Second Day of Oregon Relays

A school record was set in each event the women competed in on Saturday.

EUGENE, Ore. – The Seattle University women made a statement at the final day of the Oregon Relays, setting four school records in all four events the Redhawks competed in.

In the 100 meter dash, Alyssa Lout (Tempe, Ariz.) finished with a time of 12.72, beating the previous record of 12.75. Emily Walters (Olympia, Wash.) set her second school record of the meet in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.13, again beating her own previous record of 15.56. Rachel Purcell (Mission Viejo, Calif.) set the Seattle U school record in the 400 meter dash with a time of 58.13, earning fifth place. Clare Obradovich (Tigard, Ore.) also competed in the 400 meter dash, finishing seventh with a personal best time of 58.53.

The final record was set in the 4x100 meter relay, ran by Obradovich, Purcell, Meeghan Bergmann (Portland, Ore.), and Lout in a time of 49.17 for sixth place, beating the previous record of 49.41.

“The ladies made it particularly exciting day at the track by setting four school records today,” said head coach Trisha Steidl. “These ladies and the team overall are looking strong.”

The men also had a solid day of competition. Taylor Fitch (Seattle, Wash.) set a personal record in the 100 meter dash in 11.08 for sixth place, and Cooper Hartman (Silverdale, Wash.) also earned a personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 57.90.

The men’s 4x100 meter relay ran by Hartman, Fitch, Duncan MacKay (Renton, Wash.), and Zachary Schlachter (Tigard, Ore.), finished in 43.62.

In other competition for Seattle U, Dylan Burnett (Lynnwood, Wash.) came in ninth in the javelin with a distance of 60.68 meters (199-1). Bergmann and Elena Collins (Eugene, Ore.) also ran the 400 meter dash, finishing in 1:00.46 and 1:01.81, respectively

“The performances I saw out there today by each person was full of heart and determination,” said Steidl.

Next week, the Redhawks will travel to Spokane, Wash. to compete in the Duane Hartman Invitational on April 30, beginning at 10 a.m.
