After helping Seattle University earn a second-place finish at the National Independent Tournament at Longwood University last weekend, junior Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.) was named to the All-Tournament Team, announced at the conclusion of play Saturday afternoon.

Shkrebtan started the weekend with victories in both singles and doubles against NJIT, defeating Joao Tasca in straight sets in number two singles (6-1, 6-2) and teaming with Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) for an 8-5 victory in number one doubles. In Friday's afternoon match against Longwood, Shkrebtan and Meske defeated Marc Ferrigno and James Davis at number one doubles, 9-7, to help the Redhawks win the doubles point.

Saturday against North Carolina Central, Shkrebtan defeated Alejandro Espitia in straight sets (6-4, 6-2) as the Redhawks clinched second place in the tournament with a 4-1 victory. That capped a season in which Shkrebtan earned victories over players from Gonzaga, Northern Colorado, Air Force, and Portland.

"Mark played very well this weekend in the tournament and was deserving of the honor because of his competitiveness during match play and his ability to get his teammates fired up for a match," head coach Mark Frisby said.

Shkrebtan is one of 11 players on the 2010-11 roster eligible to return to the men's tennis program next season.
