Arlo Evasick (Port Ludlow, Wash.) earned his first victory of the season after allowing just four hits and a walk in six innings of work while striking out four batters. Cory Mack (Spokane, Wash.), Eric Yardley (Richland, Wash.), Max Whieldon (Trabuco Hills, Calif.), and Conor Spink (Eagle River, Alaska) combined for three innings of one-hit relief.
Josh Kutz (Seattle, Wash.) led off the bottom of the third inning with his second home run of the season to give Seattle U a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Ryan Somers (Sammamish, Wash.) drew a leadoff walk and Josh Kalalau (University Place, Wash.) followed with a two-run home run to increase the Redhawk advantage to 3-0.
Nate Roberts (Silverdale, Wash.) hit his first home run of the season in the seventh inning to give the Redhawks a 4-0 lead. In the eighth inning, Trent Oleszczuk (Beaverton, Ore.) and Somers led off with back-to-back singles. Oleszczuk advanced to third on a flyout to right field and scored on a Wildcat wild pitch for Seattle U's final run of the game.
"Arlo gave us a great start, exactly what we needed as we try to find a consistent third starter in the rotation. It was a good situation for us pitching-wise as guys were able to get some work in successfully. The big swings from Roberts, Kutz, and Kalalau put us in position to win, so it was a good day," head coach Donny Harrel said.
Central Washington (10-24) did turn a triple play in the first inning. After Oleszczuk singled and Somers was hit by a pitch, Kalalau hit a one-hopper right at Wildcat third baseman Glen Reser, who stepped on third base and quickly threw to second baseman Brandon Wong, and Wong's pivot throw to first baseman Kris Henderson just beat Kalalau.
Seattle University (14-15) completes its season series against Washington Tuesday, April 19, in a game at Husky Ballpark beginning at 5 p.m. The Redhawks then head to Texas for a three-game series against Dallas Baptist April 21-23 before returning to Bannerwood Park to face Pacific Lutheran Tuesday, April 26, at 7 p.m.
