Seattle U Women?s Tennis Earns Two Wins Thursday

After starting its Spring Break trip with a 5-2 loss to Southern Utah Wednesday evening at the Bally's Resort, the Seattle University women's tennis team earned 6-1 victories against both Idaho State and Western New Mexico Thursday.

Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) has enjoyed a successful trip so far, winning both singles matches as well as two of three doubles sets she has participated in. In singles, Wurden defeated Afton Staheli of Southern Utah in a super-tiebreaker (6-1, 3-6, 10-3), followed by a victory over Idaho State's Zamira Vasquez in straight sets (6-3, 6-1).

Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) have won all three doubles sets they have played in so far this week. Lucas also won both of her singles matches Thursday, defeating Idaho State's Laura Severino in straight sets (6-4, 6-3), and then cruising past Nicole Duenas of Western New Mexico without losing a game (6-0, 6-0).

Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) was a four-time winner Thursday, defeating Rilee Moorhead of Idaho State (6-2, 4-6, 6-0) and Doris Berberic of Western New Mexico (6-0, 6-0) in singles play. In doubles, Schwab teamed with Wurden in the morning for an 8-5 victory over Moorhead and Risa Fujiwara of Idaho State, followed by an 8-1 victory in the afternoon while paired with Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.).

Seattle University (5-14) continues its participation in the Las Vegas Challenge, hosted by Southern Utah University, Friday, March 25, with a 1 p.m. contest against North Dakota at the Bally's Resort.
