The Seattle University men's golf team placed three players in the top 20 of the individual standings to finish Thursday in fourth place after the first round of the Cal Poly Lamkin Grip Challenge at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Rob Seibly (Spokane, Wash.) led the Redhawks with a first-round 74 (+2) to finish the day in a tie for 10th place. Ian Dahl (Longview, Wash.) and Paul Pavlos (Woodinville, Wash.) each shot 76 (+4) to find themselves in a tie for 14th place at the end of the day.

Chris Holway (Longview, Wash.) collected 12 pars, tied for fifth-most among all golfers, as part of his first-round 79 (+7), good enough for a tie for 21st place. Jordan Beals (Enumclaw, Wash.) shot 85 (+13) to end the day in a tie for 32nd place.

As a team, Seattle University earned 12 birdies, second-most among the teams, to finish the day at 305 (+17), just two strokes behind Cal State Bakersfield but only one stroke ahead of Sacramento State. Cal Poly leads the team standings at 292 (+4), four strokes ahead of Creighton, while the Mustangs' Bryan Pierce stands atop the individual standings with a first-round 69 (-3), one stroke ahead of teammate Bryce Greeley.

Seattle University will play the second and final round Friday, teeing off from the first hole at 8:36 a.m.
