Seattle U Women?s Tennis Defeats Eastern Washington, 4-3

The Seattle University women's tennis team was able to win the key matches on its way to a 4-3 victory over Eastern Washington Sunday afternoon.

The Redhawks picked up the all-important doubles point with victories in the number two and three doubles positions. Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) collected an 8-5 victory over Nefeli Diamanti and Judy Liening, while the duo of Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) defeated Alix Silha and Jessi Steele, 8-2.

Seattle U's top two players led the way in singles competition, starting with Ariel Ohno's (Kent, Wash.) straight-set victory over Caitlin Bampton in the number one position (7-5, 6-0). Schwab followed her doubles win with a straight-set victory over Diamanti in the number two singles position (6-0, 6-3), and Wurden helped clinch the match for the Redhawks with a win over Rocio Norena in the number five singles position (6-0, 6-3).

Seattle University (3-12) welcomes Portland to the Amy Yee Tennis Center for its only home match of the 2011 season next Sunday, March 20, beginning at 1:15 p.m.
