Ending Things on the Road: The Redhawks will close out the 2010-11 campaign on the road in Fort Myers, Fla. The three-game Florida Gulf Coast Tournament will the furthest distance Seattle U has traveled this season.
Staying in the Top-10: Daidra Brown maintains her stance in the national rankings this week, as she is No. 9 in steals per game. The Seattle native is averaging 3.2 spg in 27 games played. She has 86 steals this season and is on pace break the all-time single steals record at Seattle U. Currently Jackie Thomas holds the record with 3.1 spg during the 2007-08 season.
11 and Counting: Elle Kerfoot has been a relentless offensive force for the Redhawks this season. The junior point guard has found her offensive rhythm on the floor and is currently averaging 12.9 ppg, behind 11 consecutive double figure scoring outings. At UC Davis on Feb. 18, she scored 11 points, and two days later at UC Santa Barbara she had 20 points.
This season Kerfoot has scored 15 or more points in 10 different games.
Final Outing for the Seniors: This weekend's tournament will mark the final collegiate games for the Redhawk seniors: Julee Christianson, Salena Dickerson and Tatiana Heck.
Dickerson Continues to Make Senior Season Count: In only one active playing season at Seattle U, senior Salena Dickerson has made her mark. She has started in all 27 games this season, while averaging a team-leading 6.0 rpg and a second-best 11.4 ppg.
Heck Moves Back into Starting Five: Senior Tatiana Heck moved back into the starting five three games ago. She has seen action in all 27 games, starting 16. This season the post is averaging 6.2 ppg and 4.1 rpg.
Ward Stays in Starting Five: Freshman Ashley Ward is currently coming off her fifth consecutive start. She has seen action in all 27 games this season, starting eight of them.
In the Classroom: The Redhawks excelled in the classroom during the Fall Quarter. The team posted above a 3.0 cumulative grade point average.
Redhawks Add Midseason Transfer: Seattle U added sophomore point guard Nichole Jackson to the Redhawk hoops squad for the Winter 2011 quarter. Due to NCAA transfer rule she will have to sit out for a year and will be eligible to begin action with SU in the Winter of 2012.
Some Coaching History: Head coach Joan Bonvicini enters Saturday's action behind 625 career victories. She is in the top-20 in all-time wins among both active DI coaches and all-time DI history.
Kerfoot Named to All-Tournament Team: Co-captain and point guard Elle Kerfoot was the selected to the Seattle U Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team on Nov. 27, following her 30 point performance and helping guide SU to the championship game.
GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week: This season a pair of Redhawks have earned Featured Student-Athlete of the Week honors. Senior Salena Dickerson earned the honor on Nov. 30, and classmate Julee Christianson was recognized on Feb. 15.
Seattle U Inks Three for 2011-12: Monique Abbs (Phoenix, Ariz.), Renee Dillard-Brown (Seattle, Wash.) and Kim Flournoy (San Diego, Calif.) will join the Seattle U women's team next season. This is the second recruiting class head coach Joan Bonvicini has signed since joining SU for the 2009-10 season.
The Captains: Junior point guard Elle Kerfoot and senior post Tatiana Heck will serve as captains for the Redhawks is 2010-11.
Scouting Florida Gulf Coast: Florida Gulf Coast (24-2 overall, 17-2 Atlantic Sun) currently is coming off a one-point edging by USC Upstate, 75-74, on Feb. 28. Prior to the loss, FGCU had won four straight.
The Eagles currently have three players averaging double digits and are led by redshirt freshman Sarah Hansen with 13.1 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. Guards Shannon Murphy (12.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 4.1 apg) and Kelsey Jacobson (11.6 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.1 apg) round out the top scorers.
The Last Time Seattle U Faced Florida Gulf Coast: The Redhawks currently are 0-1 all-time versus Florida Gulf Coast. The squads met last season at the Longwood Tournament in Farmville, Va. on March 6, 2010. Seattle U fell to the Eagles 51-38.
Scouting Southern Illinois Edwardsville: Southern Illinois Edwardsville (9-17) currently is riding a two-game losing streak. The Cougars most recently dropped a 94-68 decision at Cal State Bakersfield on Feb. 26.
SIUE are lead by underclassmen Jazmin Hill and Raven Berry. Hill, a freshman guard, is averaging 12.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. Berry, a sophomore center, is averaging 11.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.0 steal per game.
The Last Time Seattle U Faced Southern Illinois Edwardsville: The Redhawks are currently 2-0 all-time against Southern Illinois Edwardsville. In their last meeting on Jan. 31, 2009, Seattle U beat the Cougars 63-57.
Scouting Longwood University: After dropping four consecutive contests, Longwood University (7-20), earned a 47-37 victory over Savannah State at home on Feb. 27.
LU is led by junior Brittanni Billups, who is averaging 10.3 points and 6.7 rebounds per game. She is the lone Lancer scoring in double digits.
The Last Time Seattle U Faced Longwood University: Seattle U faced Longwood for the first time last season. The Redhawks beat the Lancers 60-51 on Jan. 21, 2010 in Seattle.
