The Seattle University women's tennis team got off to a rough start on its weekend road trip to the Southwest, as the UTEP Miners earned a 7-0 victory Friday afternoon at the El Paso Tennis Club.

UTEP (1-7) won the doubles point with victories at the number one and number three doubles positions. Seattle U's lone doubles victory came in the number two doubles spot, as Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) defeated Ximena Fuentes and Gabi Vazquez, 8-5.

All six singles matches were won by UTEP in straight sets, with Schwab staying close to Martina Trierweiler in the number one singles spot before losing (6-3, 6-4). At the number three singles position, Steffanie Mortera (Portland, Ore.) also battled before finally falling to Vazquez in two sets (6-3, 6-4).

Seattle University (1-7) will head to Las Cruces, N.M., for two matches Saturday, starting with a 9:00 a.m. local time match against New Mexico State. The Redhawks will then take on Northern Arizona later in the day at 2:00 p.m. Mountain time.
