Seattle University men’s swimmer senior Andrew Martinez (Concord, Calif.) has been selected the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com after his performance at the final home meet of his career.
“Andrew is our captain and is always thinking and acting on behalf of the team,” said interim head coach Kat Cuevas. “He is tremendously dedicated and hardworking, and keeps the environment upbeat and motivated. We are lucky to have Andrew on the team.”
Against Whitworth last weekend, Martinez placed fourth in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:58.83 and fifth in the 1650 freestyle in 17:36.26. Over the course of his career with the Redhawks, he has made two of the all-time top time lists for Seattle U, in the 200 freestyle (1:43.83) and 1650 freestyle (16:35.99).
Martinez is a political science major with a cumulative 3.208 GPA. During the fall quarter, he boasted a 3.500 GPA.
The Redhawk women will host a meet against Oregon St. and Boise St. on Saturday, Feb. 5 before joining Martinez and the rest of the Seattle U swim team at the MPSF Championships in Long Beach, Calif. on Feb. 23-26.
