All five Seattle U victories came in straight sets, starting with Andrew Anderson (Tacoma, Wash.) at the number two singles position, defeating Robbie Edwards (6-1, 6-4). Mark Shkrebtan (Redmond, Wash.) defeated Alexander Moncada in the number three singles position (6-1, 6-0), and Matt Overland (Renton, Wash.) earned the victory in the number four singles position over Michael Moya (6-3, 6-1).
In the number five singles slot, Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) picked up the win over Jeff Carlson (6-4, 6-2), while Kevin Lynch (Colorado Springs, Colo.), playing in his hometown, was victorious over Travis Day (6-2, 6-0). At the number one singles position, David Kovas (South Bend, Ind.) won the first set of his match before Brandon Lupo came back to earn the three-set victory (4-6, 6-3, 6-3).
Kovas did earn a doubles victory, teaming with Jordan Prince (Hansville, Wash.) for an 8-2 victory over Edwards and Moncada. Meske and Jason Bediones (Kent, Wash.) nearly earned the win in the number two doubles spot, but Moya and Carlson would win the tiebreaker, 8-6, to clinch the 9-8 victory. Northern Colorado (1-2) earned the doubles point thanks in part to an 8-6 victory by Lupo and Andre Lepine over Shkrebtan and Lynch.
Seattle University (1-1) will face the U.S. Air Force Academy here Sunday, Jan. 30, beginning at 9 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Pacific time). The Seattle U women's tennis team will take on Air Force Saturday, Jan. 29, at 8 a.m. Mountain time, followed by a contest against Northern Colorado Sunday, Jan. 30, at 1 p.m. local time.
