SPOKANE, Wash. - The Seattle University women’s tennis team ended its second straight day of competition with losses to Eastern Washington, 6-1, and Gonzaga, 6-0, in Cheney, Wash. and Spokane, Wash. on Sunday.
In the morning match against EWU, Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) earned Seattle U’s one point in the number two position with a victory over Ryann Warner, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4. Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) battled in the number one position, but ended up losing to Kelsey Knight in three sets (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).
Schwab and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) defeated Nefeli Diamanti and Judy Liening, 8-0, in the third position of the doubles matches, but the Eagles claimed the doubles points with victories in the number one and number two sets.
In the afternoon, the Redhawks moved to Gonzaga’s home courts, where the Bulldogs grabbed the doubles point with wins in the number one and number two positions. Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) and Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) led Sophie Lantta and Jackie Tabb (5-5) before the set was stopped.
In the singles matches, Ohno battled to win a point for SU, but ended up losing a three-set match to Kristina Zauere in the number two position (6-7 (6-8), 6-2, 6-3). Gonzaga won the first five positions, and the evening ended when the match between Wurden and Lantta was stopped with Wurden ahead (6-4, 2-1).
The Redhawks (1-4), will continue their travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. to take on Air Force and Northern Colorado on Jan. 29-30.
