Up Next For the Redhawks: The Seattle University women's basketball team will travel to Cal State Bakersfield (11-9) on Sunday, Jan. 9, for a 2 p.m. game at the Icardo Center in Bakersfield, Calif.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks (5-11) started off the New Year on a positive note, as they cruised past Navy, 62-50, on Jan. 1.  Seattle U shot over 50 percent from the field for their second consecutive game, while holding the Midshipmen to 33.9 percent. 

On Deck: Seattle U will kick off a three-game road trip at Utah Valley on Saturday, Jan. 15.  The Redhawks will square off with the Wolverines in a 5 p.m. PT game. They will also travel to Chicago State (Jan. 17) and wrap up things at Wyoming (Jan. 19).

Listen Up!: Brian Abker will be live from courtside at CSU Bakersfield calling the Redhawk-Roadrunner game this Sunday, Jan. 9. His pregame show will kick off at 1:30 p.m.

Shooting Over 50: For the first time this season Seattle U put together back-to-back over 50 percent shooting games. The Redhawks shot 54 percent from the field versus Gonzaga on Dec. 30, and followed that up with a 51.1 percent shooting from the field on Jan. 1, versus Navy. The Redhawks defeated the Midshipmen 62-50 in the contest.

Butcher Moves into Starting Five: Sophomore Carley Butcher will remain in the Redhawk starting five, taking over center duties for SU. She has started in SU's last three contests, including a Dec. 30 start versus Gonzaga where she put up 10 points.


Starting Off the New Year Right: The Redhawks kicked off 2011 on a positive note with a 60-52 victory over Navy at home. The win snapped a four-game losing streak and was their final home game before heading on the road for four consecutive games.

Redhawks Add Midseason Transfer: Seattle U added sophomore point guard Nichole Jackson to the Redhawk hoops squad for the Winter 2011 quarter. Due to NCAA transfer rule she will have to sit out for a year and will be eligible to begin action with SU in the Winter of 2012.

SEVENTY-ONE!: Seattle U tallied a season high 71 rebounds at Sacramento State on Dec. 17. Single-game records were not kept prior to SU reclassifying back to NCAA DI status. The 71 boards are a most Seattle U has made in a single-game since playing a full DI schedule last season.

Some Coaching History: Head coach Joan Bonvicini enters Saturday's action behind 623 career victories. She is in the top-20 in all-time wins among both active DI coaches and all-time DI history.

Dickerson Trends: Senior Salena Dickerson currently is on a three-game double figure scoring run. She is coming off a career-best 22 point performance versus Navy on Jan. 1, where she led SU to a 62-50 victory. She has scored in double digits in nine of the Redhawks 16 games played.

Kerfoot Named to All-Tournament Team: Co-captain and point guard Elle Kerfoot was the selected to the Seattle U Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team on Nov. 27, following her 30 point performance and helping guide SU to the championship game.

Seattle U Inks Three for 2011-12: Monique Abbs (Phoenix, Ariz.), Renee Dillard-Brown (Seattle, Wash.) and Kim Flournoy (San Diego, Calif.) will join the Seattle U women's team next season. This is the second recruiting class head coach Joan Bonvicini has signed since joining SU for the 2009-10 season.

The Captains: Junior point guard Elle Kerfoot and senior post Tatiana Heck will serve as captains for the Redhawks is 2010-11.

Scouting CSU Bakersfield: Cal State Bakersfield will host Seattle U after winning their last two games.  The Roadrunners (11-9) beat Columbia, 81-69, on Dec. 30, and Weber State, 72-58, on Jan. 3.  CSUB will host Concordia-Irvine prior to playing the Redhawks. 

The Roadrunners' offense is lead by sophomore Amber Williams and senior Britney McGee.  Williams leads CSUB in scoring with 13.7 points per game.  McGee, who is averaging 11.4 points per game, has tallied three 20-point plus games in a row. McGee is also the team's top rebounds with 5.2 per contest. Both McGee and Williams lead the team in assists, with 2.3 per game. 

Last Time Seattle U Faced CSU Bakersfield: The Redhawks faced the Roadrunners' twice during the 2009-10 season.  SU lost both matches, losing Jan. 16, 65-47, in Bakersfield, and Feb. 20, 64-44, in Seattle.
