Seattle University enters the weekend with a 15-12 record and, with four matches left in the 2010 season, needs just one more match victory to clinch its first winning season as a Division I squad. Seattle U brings a six-match overall winning streak and a three-match home winning streak into this weekend's contests against the Roadrunners.
This weekend was scheduled to be the Independent Tournament involving Seattle U, Cal State Bakersfield, and North Carolina Central, but NCCU recently withdrew from the tournament, forcing the Redhawks and Roadrunners to come up with this alternate schedule. These will be the fourth and fifth meetings between SU and CSUB this season, with the Redhawks winning the previous three contests, first at the San Jose State Tournament on Sept. 10 and then in back-to-back matches in Bakersfield Nov. 5-6.
Cal State Bakersfield enters this weekend with a 0-29 record, winning only 11 sets all season long. The Roadrunners are led by Lindy DeGeare with 281 kills, 27 service aces, and 194 defensive digs. Haleigh Haratyk has contributed 197 kills, 27 service aces, and 176 digs, and Alysia Baker has collected 149 kills, 49 total blocks, and a team-high 30 service aces.
Seattle U is paced by junior Cristin Richards, who with 465 kills has set the school record for most kills in a single season. Jordan Keller also set a single-season record this year for most blocks, and Jamie Mellies became the school's all-time assist leader and is nine assists away from reaching the 4,000-assist mark for her career.
Live stats for both matches will be available on GoSeattleU.com.
