Seattle University head volleyball coach Shannon Ellis has announced that Alec Goodrie, a 6'0" outside hitter and opposite hitter from Eugene, Ore., has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University and join the volleyball program beginning in the 2011-12 academic year.

After sharing setting duties in her sophomore season, Goodrie moved to her current position on the Thurston High School varsity squad and has led the team in kills in each of the past two seasons. A two-time captain, Goodrie earned first team all-region honors in both 2008 and 2009, picked up first team all-state recognition in 2009, and was named Midwestern Oregon Player of the Year last season.

"Alec is a dynamic player who plays with a lot of fire and passion," Ellis said. "I am excited to see what she will bring to our offense, and I expect her to find ways to contribute early on. She will be a big part in helping us reach our goals in the coming years."

Goodrie, who also plays for the Webfoot Volleyball Club, will join a squad that has posted a 15-12 record so far this season with two weekends left of competition. The team will lose three seniors to graduation, but the team leader in kills (Cristin Richards) and the squad leader in blocks (Jordan Keller) are expected to return for the 2011 season.

The Seattle University volleyball team is back in action this weekend, hosting Cal State Bakersfield in consecutive matches Friday and Saturday, Nov. 19 and 20, beginning at 6 p.m. each night at the Connolly Center. Live stats for both contests will be available on GoSeattleU.com.
