Junior swimmer James Gilmore (Eugene, Ore.) has been chosen for Seattle University’s Featured Student-Athlete of the Week after his performance in the opening swim meet of the season in West Point, N.Y. Last Friday, Gilmore won the 100 yd. backstroke in 52.41, helping Seattle U defeat Stony Brook University and Boston College.
“James is a consistently excellent student, athlete, and teammate – and his efforts are paying off in and out of the water,” said interim head coach Kat Cuevas. “He provides a great balance of hard training, humility, sense of humor and competitiveness that makes him such an asset to Seattle U swimming.”
In addition to winning the 100 backstroke, Gilmore was the leadoff swimmer for the 200 yd. medley relay team that placed second in the meet with a time of 1:34.67. He also placed third in the 200 yd. backstroke in 1:55.57 and the 200 yd. IM in 1:56.19.
Gilmore is a biochemistry major with a 3.745 GPA.
The swimming teams will head to the University of Hawaii for a meet on Oct. 15-16.
