Ariel Ohno (Kent, Wash.) earned a victory over Paulina Lopez of Montana State in the main Crimson singles draw (6-1, 7-5) before losing to top seed Luda Vasilieva of Washington State (6-1, 6-3). Katrina Schwab (Spokane, Wash.) won matches over Caitlin Stocking of Portland State (6-1, 6-0) and Nefeli Diamanti of Eastern Washington (6-0, 6-0) before falling to Ksenia Googe of Washington State (6-4, 6-0).
Four newcomers to the Seattle U program earned victories in the Gray consolation singles bracket. Anna Lambert (Spokane, Wash.) defeated Ms. Todd of Portland State (6-0, 6-3), Natalie Martin (Phoenix, Ariz.) earned a straight-set victory over Kylea Gleason of Portland State (6-2, 6-2), Sarah Lucas (Las Vegas, Nev.) earned a victory over Kelly Humphrey of Gonzaga (6-2, 6-2), and Corinne Wurden (Poulsbo, Wash.) defeated Hanley Caras of Gonzaga in straight sets (6-1, 6-4).
In the Crimson doubles consolation draw, the team of Ohno and Schwab earned victories over Charlotta Hjalmarsson and Ellie Crum of Montana State (8-5) and Caitlin Bampton and Kelsey Knight of Eastern Washington (8-3). In the Gray doubles consolation draw, Lucas and Gabriella Weissmann (Simi Valley, Calif.) defeated Stocking and Todd of Portland State (8-4) as well as Lucy Fairbotham and Gabi Villegas of Montana State, while Mikaela Peterson (Spokane, Wash.) and Lambert picked up an 8-2 victory over Rocio Norena and Jessi Steele of Eastern Washington.
The Seattle University women's tennis team will head to Cheney, Wash., for the EWU/Gonzaga Classic next weekend, Oct. 1-3.
