"Getting the late goal was one of the brightest moments of the game," said head coach Julie Woodward. "We had a real solid first half and possessed the ball well; our second half maybe not so much. I think it was great to see the resiliency after Idaho tied it up and we answered right away. I thought Emma had a great game for us and I thought our backline played well for us again."
Levy was an all-around offensive threat for the Redhawks. She had three shots in the game, with a pair on target. In the 19th minute, she served up her third career assist on senior Kara Kuttler's (Redmond, Wash.) opening goal. The Kuttler - Levy tandem has combined four times this year, with Kuttler assisting on three of Levy's goals.
After taking an early 1-0 lead, SU maintained possession for a majority of the first half. They tallied 13 shots, with seven on goal. Kuttler, who scored her second goal of the season, had seven shots in the half, with five on net. She would go on to tally eight shots in the game to lead both sides.
In the second half, the Redhawks slowed down their game pace allowing Idaho to get a break in the contest. Midway through the period, the Vandals pushed the ball deep into the Seattle U half of the field. In the 70th minute a UI player was fouled just outside the box. Idaho's Amber Pimley took the free kick and sailed in the equalizing goal from 20 yards out.
Five minutes later Levy subbed back into the game and helped push the ball into the Vandal box. A minute later she knocked down an Idaho deflection to shoot in the game-winner. It was her second game-winning goal this season.
Defensively, the Redhawk backline played well as a unit, with veterans Nance Hill (Mercer Island, Wash.) and Jordan Salisbury (Federal Way, Wash.) anchoring the defense. The Vandals were kept to six shots in the game, with their only shot on goal being the second half equalizer. Seattle U tallied 23 shots in the contest, with 12 on target.
SU will conclude the Redhawk Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 26, when they take on Sacramento State at 1:30 p.m. CSUS opens the tournament with Cal State Bakersfield.
