"The focus wasn't great after we scored the goal," said head coach Brad Agoos. "We gave away possession and let them back into the game, which I think was a symbol of the game. There were some good things in the second half and some improvements, but overall it wasn't good enough."
Kyle Peterman (Boise, Idaho) got things started off early for Seattle U, as he received a long ball from Brady Ballew (Marysville, Wash.). Peterman drove it deep into the Gonzaga box to take an immediate 1-0 lead for the Redhawks in the fourth minute of play off his shot from four yards out.
Following their early goal SU looked to maintain possession of the ball, but the Bulldogs pushed it well into the Redhawk half. GU fired off seven shots in the next 10 minutes, controlling possession around the Seattle U box. Midway through the first half Nick Love crossed the ball to an oncoming Philippe Garre, who shot it in from five yards out to even the score at 1-1 at the 24:00 minute mark.
As the first half began to come to a close, Gonzaga took control of the ball outside the Seattle U 18. Garre found an opening and passed the ball to Love this time. Love's shot from three yards out would become the difference maker and game-winner in the 44th minute.
In the second half, SU worked to push the ball into the Bulldog box, but their chances were unsuccessful. The Redhawks were unable to maintain possession of the ball for an extended period of time and their eight second half shots were read easily by the Gonzaga goalkeeper Ryan Caballero.
Seattle U will look to get in the win column this Sunday, Sept. 12, as they close out the Seattle University Tournament with Michigan (2-1) at 1:30 p.m.
