Dallas Baptist (22-16) scored first in the second inning as Ryan Enos led off with a double, advanced to third on a bunt single by Ryan Behmanesh, and scored on a single to center field by Duncan McAlpine. The Patriots scored five runs in the third inning, which included a double by McAlpine and a two-run home run by Chris Haney.
After a single run in the fourth inning, the Patriots put another five-spot on the scoreboard in the fifth thanks to a two-run single by Landon Anderson and a three-run home run by Austin Knight. With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Austin Elkins drove in Haney on a groundout to give Dallas Baptist a 13-0 lead, followed by a 26-minute rain delay in the middle of the sixth inning.
Seattle University broke through after the delay, as Cullen Hendrickson (Auburn, Wash.) walked, advanced to third on two wild pitches, and scored on a passed ball. The Redhawks picked up another run in the seventh inning when Nate Roberts (Silverdale, Wash.) was hit by a pitch and advanced around the bases, scoring on a groundout by Josh Kutz (Seattle, Wash.). After the first out in the top of the eighth, the coaches and umpires agreed to end the game when another downpour descended on the field.
Brandon Williamson pitched the first six innings for Dallas Baptist, allowing only three hits, three walks, and an unearned run while striking out eight batters in picking up his sixth victory of the year. Brandon Kizer (Marysville, Wash.) suffered his second loss of the season, allowing seven hits, a walk, and six runs in three innings of work with two strikeouts.
Hendrickson went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead the Redhawks offensively, while Enos went 3-for-4 and McAlpine hit 3-for-5 to pace the Patriots at the plate. Dallas Baptist outhit Seattle U, 13-4, including five extra-base hits as opposed to only one extra-base hit for the Redhawks, a double by Hendrickson in the first inning.
Seattle University (5-27) and Dallas Baptist will play the rubber game of the three-game series Saturday, April 24, beginning at 11 a.m. at Bannerwood Park. Arlo Evasick (Port Ludlow, Wash.) is scheduled to start for Seattle U, while Dallas Baptist did not name a starter but may go with lefthander Ryan Millard, who was announced earlier in the week as the Friday starter.
