The Seattle University men's tennis team earned the doubles point over Gonzaga University and picked up two singles victories over Eastern Washington, but those were not enough as both the Bulldogs and Eagles earned 5-2 victories over the Redhawks Sunday.

In the morning against Gonzaga (7-11), SeattleU won the doubles point thanks to convincing victories by Jordan Prince (Hansville, Wash.) and Andrew Tran (Portland, Ore.) in the number two doubles position and Patrick Boorkman (Bellevue, Wash.) and Simon Meske (Tacoma, Wash.) in the number three doubles slot. Prince and Tran shut out Jake Davis and Tyler Campbell, 8-0, while Boorkman and Meske earned an 8-3 win over Kevin Eischen and Zach Peach.

The lone SeattleU singles victory came in the number six position, as Kyle Rapp (Encinitas, Calif.) took the first set and lost the second set, but recovered to win the super-tiebreaker over Peach (6-4, 1-6, 12-10). Gonzaga posted straight set victories over SeattleU in the other matches, but Meske pushed Conor Feeney to tiebreakers in both sets before succumbing in each tiebreaker, 7-4.

After losing the doubles point to Eastern Washington (7-12) during the afternoon, Alex Montgomery (Seattle, Wash.) earned a victory in the number two singles position over Fernando Mussolini (6-3, 6-2). In the number six singles slot, Yusuke Kanehira (Tokyo, Japan) won the first set in a tiebreaker and was up in the second set when Kevin Anderson retired, giving Kanehira the victory (7-6 (7-5), 3-1 ret.).

Prince won the first set over Flavio Malagutti in the number four singles match, but Malagutti came back to win the second set and the super-tiebreaker for the match victory (4-6, 6-2, 10-5). Tran played Kyle Koetge to a first set tiebreaker, but the Eagle used the momentum from winning that to a straight-set victory (7-6 (7-4), 6-2).

Seattle University (5-14) now prepares for the National Independent Tournament, to take place April 15-18 in Farmville, Va.
