Last Time Out: After a 40 minute seesaw contest, the Redhawks (3-14) fell on the losing end of an arduous battle to finish at Loyola Marymount on Dec. 30. SU dropped a 74-68 decision to the Lions in Los Angeles, Calif.
SeattleU's offensive and defensive efforts were fluid and focused, and for the first time this season four players scored in double-digits. Sophomore Elle Kerfoot scored a season-high 20 points to lead both squads, and classmate Maggie McCarthy scored a second-best 19 points and tallied eight boards, to lead the Redhawks. Rounding out the team's top scorers were Ashley Brown and Tatiana Heck, who had 10 and 11 points, respectively.
On Deck: SU hits the road again for a trip to the Dakotas. The Redhawks will begin in Grand Forks, N.D. to square off with North Dakota on Friday, Jan. 8, in a 3 p.m. PT contest. SeattleU will then head south to South Dakota for an 11 a.m. PT game in Vermillion, S.D.

On a Roll: Since returning to the floor six games ago, sophomore Elle Kerfoot has proven her dominance in the Redhawk lineup. The Surrey, B.C. native has scored in double-digits in five contests and has made four consecutive starts. To close out 2009, she scored team-best's both at Cal Poly and Loyola Marymount. On Dec. 28, she scored 16 points at CP and followed with 20 points at LMU on Dec. 29.
This season she is the only other SeattleU player to be averaging in double-digits, with 12.8 points and 3.2 assists in 32.0 minutes of play.
A Pit Stop at Home: SeattleU finally returns home after spending their last four games on the road. The last time they were home, SU sizably defeated Evergreen State 82-51 on Dec. 15. They will return to the road for a pair of games in the Dakotas following their one home game stint.
Another First: For the first time in the 2009-10 campaign four Redhawks scored in double-digits in a game. On Dec. 30, at Loyola Marymount, Elle Kerfoot headlined the offense with 20 points. Following the sophomore guard was forward Maggie McCarthy, who knocked in a second-best 19 points. Junior Tatiana Heck had 11 points and post player Ashley Brown rounded out the foursome with 10 points.
This Season at the Connolly Center: All three of the Redhawks victories this season have come at home. Before heading on the road for four consecutive contests to close out 2009, they were last at home on Dec. 15. SeattleU defeated Evergreen State 82-51 to close out the first leg of the season.
SU will look to get back in the win column versus Portland on Sunday, Jan. 3.
Scouting University of Portland: The Pilots (9-3) of the University of Portland head to Seattle riding a six game winning streak. Three UP players are averaging in double-digits this season, led by Laiken Dollente with 16.7 points per game. Natalie Day and Lauren Angel follow with 12.2 and 11.7 points, respectively. Alexis Gannis is the team's top rebounder, averaging 7.8 boards in 23.8 minutes per game.
In their last game, they defeated Montana State 78-75 on Dec. 21, behind 31 points from Dollente. She was 10-for-17 from the field and a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe in 40 minutes of action. Day scored a second-best 11 points and Tara Cronin had 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Pilots in the game.
Two days prior, they earned a 66-58 win over Montana at home. Four players scored in double-figures, with Day leading the way with 17 points. Lauren Angel had 12 points and seven boards in the game.
SU is 4-6 all-time versus the Pilots. In their last meeting, SeattleU earned a 56-51 victory over UP on Dec. 7, 2008 in Portland, Ore. Portland will be the second straight WCC team SU will face this season, as they just were at Loyola Marymount to close out 2009.

After a tough and long fought 40 minute battle, the Seattle University women's basketball team was edged 74-68 by Loyola Marymount Wednesday evening in Los Angeles, Calif. Despite having an early lead, the Redhawks could not comeback from a second half deficit and earn their first road win on the season. With the loss, SU closes out the first half of the season 3-14.
SU tallied four players who scored in double-digits for the first time this season. Elle Kerfoot led both squads with 20 points; she also added three defensive boards and an assist. Maggie McCarthy followed with 19 points and a team-leading eight boards. Ashley Brown and Tatiana Heck rounded out SU's double-digit scorers, with 10 and 11 points, respectively. Brown had five defensive rebounds and Heck had a second-best seven boards.
