This Week For the Redhawks: After two straight home wins this week, the Seattle University women's basketball team travels to sunny Southern California for a game at UC Irvine. The Redhawks (2-7) will square off with the Anteaters (1-5) in a 4 p.m. contest on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Irvine, Calif.

Last Time Out: The Redhawks soundly defeated Pacific Lutheran 75-37 to open up the month of December on a positive note. The Dec. 2, game at the Connolly Center was SeattleU's second straight victory of the season. They stunned UW-Milwaukee 68-63 on Nov. 29, to cap off the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament.

Versus PLU, leading scorer Ashley Brown knocked in 16 points, including four 3-point jumpers. Sophomore Maggie McCarthy provided six boards, and she was the second-top scorer with 13 points. Senior guard Cassidy Murillo added seven assists in SU's routing of the Lutes.

On Deck: A battle in Seattle will go down on Wednesday, Dec. 9, when cross-town foe the University of Washington will travel to the Connolly Center. The Redhawks will take on the Huskies in a 7 p.m. contest. It will be the first time assistant coach Kristen O'Neill will square off with her alma mater as a college coach. Live stats and an online radio broadcast will be available.

Scouting UC Irvine: The Anteaters of UC Irvine host the Redhawks after falling in their last three games. UCI (1-5) saw their only victory on the season at Loyola Marymount on Nov. 20. They defeated the Lions 65-62 in Los Angeles, Calif.

In their last pair of games at home, they fell to Princeton on Nov. 27, 78-50, and three days later to South Florida, 78-66. Versus USF, Jade Smith-Williams scored a team-leading 32 points in 39 minutes of action. She had two defensive rebounds, four assists and was 10-for-12 from the charity stripe.

Smith-Williams lead the Anteaters on the season, averaging 16.3 points, 5.0 assists and 2.2 rebounds in 32.7 minutes on the floor. UCI's top rebounder is Jazmyne White, who is averaging 6.5 per game in 22.2 minutes of play.

UC Irvine will take on Fresno State on Wednesday, Dec. 3, prior to playing SU.

This will be the first meeting between Seattle and Irvine in program history.

Brownie Points: Senior Ashley Brown has truly had a triumphant return to the court for the Redhawks for the 2009-10 season. After missing her true junior season with an injury last year, she has scored in double digits in seven of the eight SU games she has played in this season. Versus UW-Milwaukee on Nov. 29, she broke her scoring career high with 23 points and was named MVP of the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament. In SeattleU's last game, versus Pacific Lutheran on Dec. 2, she scored 16 points in 21 minutes.

Makin' That Assist: Senior guard Cassidy Murillo made seven assists versus Pacific Lutheran on Dec. 2, to help lead the Redhawks to a 75-37 defeat over Lutes. This season the Yakima, Wash. native leads the SU with 43 assists. In nine straight starts this season, she's averaging 6.6 points, 4.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds in 32.2 minutes of action.

Back-to-Back Home Wins: The Redhawks have put together consecutive victories at home this past week. They earned their first win of the season at the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament over UW-Milwaukee on Nov. 28. The 68-63 thriller was followed three days later versus Pacific Lutheran on Dec. 2. with a 75-37 win. Senior Ashley Brown headlined both games, scoring a combined 39 points.

McCarthy Continues to Lead Rebounding Efforts: Sophomore forward Maggie McCarthy tallied six rebounds versus Pacific Lutheran to bring her season total to 50. The Burlingame, Calif. native is averaging 5.6 rebounds in 26.8 minutes of work. This season she is also averaging 8.2 points and 3.2 assists in nine straight starts.

Everything was in sync for the Seattle University women's basketball team Tuesday evening in the Connolly Center, as the Redhawks routed Pacific Lutheran 75-37. The decisive win is the second straight for SU at home and with the victory, they improve to 2-7 on the season, while the Lutes fall to 1-3 on the year.

SU had their strongest performance on the season, as they shot 48.2 percent from the field, while PLU was held to 23.4 percent. The Redhawks outrebounded the Lutes 44 to 36, with both Carley Butcher and Maggie McCarthy bringing down six boards apiece to lead SeattleU.

Senior Ashley Brown led the offense with 16 points and junior Tatiana Heck added 12. Sophomore Maggie McCarthy had 13 points and six boards, and senior Cassidy Murillo tallied seven assists and seven points.
