Charles Garcia (Los Angeles, Calif.) earned his fourth double-double of the season, leading all players with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Mike Boxley (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) hit three long distance shots in scoring 13 points, while Aaron Broussard (Federal Way, Wash.) finished with 11 points and five rebounds.
Cal Poly (1-5) took an early 5-3 lead just over a minute into the contest, but SeattleU responded with a 24-6 run over the next nine minutes, led by Garcia with 13 points during the spurt. After a Boxley three-pointer extended SeattleU's lead to 30-15, the Mustangs outscored the Redhawks, 17-7, over the final seven and a half minutes of the first half to pull within five (37-32) at halftime.
After a jumper by Cervante Burrell (Sacramento, Calif.) gave SeattleU a 46-41 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the second half, Cal Poly exploded with a 21-5 run over the next seven minutes, punctuated by a three-pointer from Kyle Odister. The Mustangs shot 56.0 percent from the field (14-of-25) and 75.9 percent from the free throw line (22-of-29) in outscoring SeattleU in the second half, 53-37.
Burrell finished the night with eight points, four rebounds, and six assists. Garrett Lever (Phoenix, Ariz.) was a force during his time on the floor, collecting seven points, three rebounds, and seven steals. However, SeattleU was hurt by 21 turnovers and 26 missed free throw attempts during the contest.
Six players reached double figures in points for Cal Poly, led by Jordan Lewis with 15 points along with six rebounds. Will Donahue notched a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds, and Shawn Lewis contributed 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots. Lorenzo Keeler scored 11 points, while Justin Brown and David Hanson added 10 points each off the bench, with Hanson also pulling down seven rebounds.
Seattle University (4-4) heads north to the capital city of California, using Sacramento as home base for the next couple of days to prepare for Saturday's contest against UC Davis.
