This Week For the Redhawks: Behind their first victory of the season, the Seattle University women's basketball team will host Pacific Lutheran to open up the month of December. The Redhawks (1-7) will take on the Lutes (1-2) in a 7 p.m. game on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in the Connolly Center.

Last Time Out: Senior Ashley Brown was named the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament MVP after a stellar performance on the weekend. The Kirkland, Wash. native scored 23 points versus UW-Milwaukee to lead the Redhawks to a 68-63 victory over UW-Milwaukee. Behind five 3-pointers, she broke her current career scoring high. Versus the Panthers, fellow senior Cassidy Murillo, who was named to the all-tournament team, lit up the floor with eight points, nine rebounds and four rebounds.

The day prior, SU fell short in the come-from-behind run versus William and Mary. The Redhawks fell 69-58 to the Tribe in the weekend opening contest. Brown led the offense with 17 points, but WM's Taysha Pye's 22 jumpers and 11 boards stymied the SU second half run.

On Deck: The Redhawks will hit the road for California after playing at home for the last four games. SU will square off with UC Irvine on Saturday, Dec. 5, in Irvine, Calif. Tip time is slated for 4 p.m. PT.

MVP Ashley Brown!: Senior Ashley Brown was named SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament MVP after a stellar performance in the two-game weekend tournament. She broke her existing career high of 19, with 23 points versus UW-Milwaukee to lead SU to their first victory of the season. She also added five 3-point jumpers, for the third consecutive game. The day prior, versus William and Mary, she scored a team-leading 17 points for the second straight game.

This is the first time the Kirkland, Wash. native has earned such an honor.

Murillo Named to All-Tournament Team: Senior Cassidy Murillo was named to the SeattleU Thanksgiving All-Tournament Team for her solid play versus William and Mary and UW-Milwaukee this past weekend. On the weekend the Yakima, Wash. native tallied 22 points, 14 assists, nine rebounds and three steals in 72 minutes on the floor.

It was the Redhawk captain's first-time honor in a Division I tournament.

Finally! The Redhawks Got in the Win Column: After a tough start to the 2009-10 season, the Redhawks can finally breathe a sigh of relief. They earned their first victory of the year with a stunning 68-63 win over UW-Milwaukee. Senior Ashley Brown led the team with 23 points, including five 3-pointers. Cassidy Murillo had nine assists, in addition to knocking in eight points and bringing down four boards. Sophomore Maggie McCarthy was just shy of a double-double, as she scored 14 points and had eight rebounds, along with six assists and two steals.

Gettin' Sparky: Transfer Kourtney Parks has made a name for herself in the Redhawk lineup this season. The Bend, Ore. native has started in all eight games this season at guard and has been a spark plug in the lineup. In addition to averaging 4.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 26.4 minutes, she has been a strong defender for SU. She has stymied opponent's guards from being able to bring the ball down the court and has 10 steals on the season.

Lucky Number 613: With the Redhawks win over UW-Milwaukee, first season head coach Joan Bonvicini not only earned her first career win with SeattleU, but her 613th career victory. Bonvicini is one of 18 NCAA head coaches with over 600 career wins.

Scouting Pacific Lutheran: The Lutes of Pacific Lutheran travel to Seattle following their 76-57 loss to Seattle Pacific on Nov. 24. PLU (1-2) was led by Shelly Kilcup, who scored 23 off the bench points for the Lutes. She also added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals in 31 minutes of work.

Pacific Lutheran earned their lone win of the year at home versus Corban Nov. 20, 69-61. Leading PLU on the year is Kilcup, who has scored a team-leading 50 points in three off the bench performances. She is averaging 16.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in 27.3 minutes of play. Jordan Westering, who's averaging 11.3 points and 3.7 rebounds in 26.0 minutes, follows Kilcup.

This will be the 32nd meeting between the Redhawks and the Lutes. SU leads the all-time series 25-6.

Game Eight Recap - UW-Milwaukee

Nov. 29, 2009 - W 68-63

Behind 23 points from senior Ashley Brown, the Seattle University women's basketball team earned their first victory of the 2009-10 season. The Redhawks stunned UW-Milwaukee 68-63 in the final game of the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament. With the win, SU improves to 1-7, while UWM falls to 4-2 on the year.

With Brown in the offensive driver's seat, SU shot 45.5 percent on the day. The Kirkland, Wash. native scored a career-high 23 points, including five 3-pointers for the third consecutive game. Brown was 9-for-18 from the field, had six defensive rebounds, a block and a steal in 29 minutes on the floor.

Senior Cassidy Murillo orchestrated the offense guided with eight points and sophomore Maggie McCarthy made her presence known with 14 points and a team-leading eight rebounds.

Game Seven Recap - William & Mary

Nov. 28, 2009 - L 58-69

In the opening game of the SeattleU Thanksgiving Tournament, the Redhawks fell 69-58 to William & Mary Saturday afternoon in the Connolly Center. With the loss SU falls to 0-7, while the Tribe improves to 4-2.

Senior Murillo showed her experience, as she made several spectacular offensive and defensive plays. She scored 14 points and had five rebounds, five assists and three steals in a team-leading 37 minutes of action. She was instrumental in SU's second half come from behind run that brought the Redhawks within seven points with 8:21 remaining.

After holding WM off the board for almost a minute, the Tribe was able to convert a pair of free throw shots to prevent SU from garnering enough momentum. Despite several attempts at chipping away at WM's double digit lead, the East Coast-based squad was able to maintain at least an 11-point advantage to close out the game.

The Tribe's offensive power was managed by sophomore Taysha Pye, who led the team with 22 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and five steals in 36 minutes on the floor.

For the Redhawks, who shot 39.3 percent, senior Ashley Brown led the team with 17 points for the second straight game, including five 3-pointers. The Kirkland, Wash. native also had two rebounds and a steal.
